Curently I moved my studio to Three Rivers, where I can relax more and focus on my work. Spring and summer is the busiest time of year for me, because most people like to get married in summer or fall. Busy is a good thing I guess, that means my small business is doing pretty well, but I do feel I need some break some time:)
I think this year I'm going to focus on dresses that made of chiffon or tulle. I just love the flowy and romantic feel of these fabrics. For small business like us, we really have to limit our dress style and fabric using, that will improve a lot in time saving and quality of the dress.
So this is my schedule for 2011:
March-September I will be located in Three Rivers, September I move back to A2.
March-April
Finish all the custom orders from January to February
April-May
Renew all my dress styles, begin with spring and summer new designs
I will limit my custom order dress style to 10-15, and only use silk chiffon and tulle fabric.
June-July
Photo shoot. We will use real brides and real wedding for modeling
August-September
Work on fall and winter design
September-October
Fall break, rest! No custom orders for one month
November-December
Move back to Ann Arbor, and begin with new custom orders
If you are a local bride from Michigan area, you are very welcome to visit my home base studio, and get measurements taken by me. I give a 20% discount for local brides.
Oh, one important thing I should mention here: I will design more beautiful and comfortable dresses for pregnant women, because I just become one of them!^_^
2011 is a great year with a wonderful begginning. Lots of change, lots of hope!

Holiday season, enjoy the time with family
I always feel I don't have enough time to finish what I need to to every day. It seems 24hours is never enough for me to finish my to-do-list. When holiday seasons, it even becomes more crazy, but I try to learn how to enjoy my life without too much stress and keep this dress making business going well.
In the morning I will take an hour to do yoga and one hour study Spanish. Of course I am a housewife, I need to make 3 lovely meals a day and clean the house very well. Then I take all afternoon and evening time working on my dresses! I have a goal to create something unique and beautiful every day, even if I don't have full day time to do it. But I learnt how to manage my time. The first thing in the morning when I wake up, I turn on my computer and relist some of the dresses and give a quick check of all my etsy conversations, it normally takes 5-10 minutes. Then I shut down my computer for all day until later in the night before I go to bed. I find it's so easy to forget about time when I sit in front of the computer and start to work on my shop, blogs and learn news about fashion and design. I have 3 new orders I need to finish within 3 weeks time, I can't spend too much time on computer! So I learned only turn it on for 10 minutes in the morning, and later in the night before I go to bed I need to reply emails and etsy conversations. When I try to make dresses, I don't like to be disturbed, so I turn off my phone, turn off computer, put on light relaxed music. Sometimes I can finish a new dress in one day, but sometimes it might take me a whole week to work on one dress. I like to focus on one dress at a time, so when I work on a new dress, I put away all the other dresses and fabrics, only display everything I need for this new dress. In this way I am able to make 10-15 dresses in a month without feeling overworking.
English is not my first language, and I have to use it to communicate with my customers and write blogs, I make mistakes, but I learn from my mistakes. My husband is a great teacher, he taught me so many things that has turned me to be a more organized successful business woman. There is a saying"Behind every successful man, there is always a successful woman." I am so lucky to have a very supportive man behind me to teach me and help me. Marriage is the beginning of the new couple growing closer, wiser and stronger together. I really enjoy to be a married woman with a home-base job.
Another thing I feel thankful and lucky is I have such a wonderful and smart sister JoJo who is helping me with the business. She is running around to find perfect fabrics for my dresses and giving me new ideas and suggestions. She even set up a studio in suzhou where they produce nice silk fabric, just to make it easier for me! Sometimes to find the right beads, she has to travel to another city and walk through each store in the fabric market. She is my base in China to shop all the nice silk fabric and ship them to me in time. I work here in US to create beautiful dresses and ship all over the world.
It's such a pleasure to work with beautiful brides, I also get tuns of new ideas from my brides and bridesmaids who is looking for something different. It can be stressful when it comes with a rush order, but good communication and understanding always can solve the problems. For a custom dress I spend days (sometimes weeks) try to make it perfect before I send it to my customer, but with distance and weight change, I can't promise you it's going to be perfect. In this case I always double check with the size and measurements, and I even find models similar size to try it on. Most brides are very understanding and supportive, I will give some refund back if they do need alterations after they receive the dress and it doesn't fit well. But 95% of the dresses will fit perfectly when brides give me their correct measurements.
I will tell the story how I started this dress business and about my education background in my next blog.
Thank you so much for reading and following!

Tingting and JoJo---a sister team to make your dream dress come true!
JoJo (l), Ting (r) |
ABOUT TING BRIDAL
TingBridal is a US home based studio owned by myself, Ting, and my beautiful little sister Jojo, we focus on making dresses and accessories for brides who are looking for something a little more special and custom than what you can find from many bridal retailers. Many of our brides have a destination, outdoor, or some other non-traditional wedding, and they want the dress, jewelry, or vail to be just as special. We like to use organic and natural material, such as 100% silk, cotton, as well as vintage lace and fabric from vintage wedding gowns.
In addition to being a wedding designer and dress-maker I am a yoga instructor and I have degrees in teaching and media broadcasting. I just love creating something new, using a wide range of materials, and rumaging through antique stores to discover a perfect 50's lace gown. It is also great working with brides to see what new ideas we can come up with together.

JOJO
Jojo is great at beading and making small wedding accessories, and she helps me purchase all the silk material from the silk capital of the world, Suzhou China. She also has her own fashion studio based in Suzhou. I will try to write an article about beautiful Suzhou with lots of pictures later.
Welcome to Ting Bridal
TingBridal's Shop Announcement
Stunning and unique bridal dresses and accessaries designed and constructed by Ting in Michigan USA! I specialize in custom wedding gowns design and recreation. Show me your dream dress, I will help you to make it come true!
Something unique and outdoorsy is always attractive to some non-traditional brides who are getting married. A wedding at a vineyard, farm, beach or even a back yard of your house seemed very casual and yet still very romantic. If you are planning to have a summer or fall wedding at such locations, it's going to be a lot of fun! Believe me, because I have been there and done that. My own wedding was in summer at grandma's gorgeous backyard facing the beautiful lake of Charlevoix in Michigan. It was the most romantic and fun wedding I could ever dream of. I was determined to make my wedding as environmentally friendly as possible. It was so wonderful to have families and friends to help make some fun DIYs! If you are a DIY bride just like me, please feel free to contact and talk about making a stunning and unique wedding gowns that is just for you. If you are on a budget, just let me know, I can help you to make a beautiful yet still high quality wedding gown base on your budget.
My favorite designs have elegant, romantic, and whimsical elements. To achieve this I usually stick to classic lines made with rich materials such as chiffon, silk, satin, taffeta, organza, tulle, and lace. I then add signature pearls, beading, lacing, and/or colorful sashes to make each dress stunning and unique. I am very interested in custom recreation, let me hear your ideas! You can send me inspired photos, sketches, or even written descriptions, I will turn your vision into a reality:)
I prefer to use 100% silk, organic cotton or recycled vintage lace to create a unique and stunning gown. I prefer to use very light material, easy to care and handle. Some of my gowns can be packed in a small handbag. After hand wash in cold water, hang up and let dry, it will be ready for your big day. You will feel comfortable and beautiful, dance in it all day long.
My turn around time is 4-6 weeks! I prefer brides to order the dress 4-6 months ahead time of the wedding. If it's a rush order less than 4 weeks, I may charge a extra fee for that, but it also depends.
